Although the journey to becoming a Psychologist is not necessarily a difficult process to understand, it is not a short journey. Idaho has very strict requirements set by the Idaho Board of Psychologist Examiners, a division of the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses. To begin the journey, first receive a doctoral degree from an accredited online university or through one of the psychology schools in Idaho. Before the program is completed, you should have taken courses that intensely cover the different types of psychology including behavioral, clinical, or developmental.
Once graduation has past, it will be time to find a licensed, practicing Psychologist to allow you to work in their office and become your supervisor for a minimum of two years and 1,000 hours. At least once a week, you must meet face to face with your supervisor for the experience hours to count. During this time, it would be wise to take your Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, which is a required examination in most states, including Idaho. After the examination has been passed, the two years of experience has been completed, and the doctoral degree has been earned through one of the psychology schools in Idaho, it is time to apply for a license to practice. Simply prove that you have met the above requirements, that you are of good moral character, and pay the appropriate fees, which may cost you approximately $300.
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Psychologists in Boise, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Meridian, Idaho may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, and St. Luke's Boise Medical Center.
