Mental and behavioral health in the “crossroads of America” frequently makes headlines. The Indiana Bar Foundation and Supreme Court Judges and Lawyers Assistance Committee began two funds to assist lawyers with dependency or mental health problems in November, 2009. A year before, The Elkhart Truth reported two teachers were arrested for dealing methamphetamines. The Muncie Star Press reports almost 700 suicides in the state each year and another 3,000 attempts. These dismal reports may contribute to the number of individuals considering training through the various psychology schools in Indiana. America’s Health Rankings puts Indiana in 28th place for poor mental health days. The need for services and professionals to help residents deal with mental illness and the burden of everyday problems is great, and psychologists are on the front lines of the fight.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 166,000 psychologists in 2006, of which (in its 2008 report), Indiana hosted more than 1,100.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Psychologists in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville, Indiana may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Deaconess Hospital, Community Hospital East, and Parkview Hospital.
