The Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (LSBEP) has provided the following guidelines for becoming a licensed psychologist in Louisiana.

Applicants must have graduated from psychology schools in Louisiana or an out-of-state or online college that has been approved by the Board that:

  • Has been accredited by one of the six regional bodies that have been recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation.
  • Has achieved the top level of approval or accreditation that is offered by statutory authorities of the state in which that college or school is to be found.
  • Provides a full-time course of graduate study in the field of psychology.

After graduating from one of the accredited psychology schools in Louisiana, applicants must pass the written section of the examination of the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. This is known as the Examination for the Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP), which was created by the American Association of State Psychology Boards. Applicants must score 70 percent or better on a paper version, or a scaled score of 500 on the computer-provided version, to pass the exam.

Applicants must complete the license application. This can be found at http://www.lsbep.org/application.pdf. There is a $250 fee that applicants must include with this application. For a summary of fees, go to http://www.lsbep.org/SUMMARY%20OF%20FEES.pdf.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Psychologists in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport, Louisiana may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, CHRISTUS Schumpert Saint Mary Place, and Ochsner Medical Center.
