  1. Apply to the 3-4 year accredited university or one of the psychology schools in Maryland. In college you will want to work towards a bachelor's degree in psychology or another mental health related degree program. Maintaining a high grade point average (GPA) while in college is very important as your GPA, along with volunteer and research activities will help you gain a competitive edge among your peers when you apply to graduate school.

  2. Upon completion of your bachelor's degree you will have the option to advance to a doctoral program or a master's program offered online or through psychology schools in Maryland. Ultimately you will want to have completed a doctorate to become a psychologist but many students first take the route of a master's degree so that they can become employable within the mental health field, save some money and then return to school for the doctoral program.

  3. As you complete your PhD or Psy. D program you will be required 2 calendar years working under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist according to the laws of Maryland.
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Psychologists in Baltimore, Columbia, Silver Spring and Ellicot City, Maryland may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Franklin Square Hospital Center, Holy Cross Hospital, John Hopkins Medicine and Prince George’s Hospital Center.
