Education Requirements of Psychology Schools in Ohio

  • Must hold a doctoral degree from an accredited institution or program by a national agency, or program accredited by one of the following:
    • American Psychological Association, Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation
    • Canadian Psychological Association, Accreditation Office
    • Listing by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards/National Register Designation Committee
    • National Association of School Psychologists
  • Curriculum of the program must include coursework in the following areas:
    • Psychology of Human Development and Personality
    • Psychology of Learning
    • Statistics and research development
    • Counseling and interviewing techniques
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years supervised experience and training in a professional psychological setting or practice, including a one year pre-doctoral internship
  • Must have a minimum of 1500 training hours supervised by an approved professional
    • Hours must be applied to specified area of psychology by applicant
    • Minimum of 375 hours per year must be in direct contact with clients
    • Maximum of 30%, or 540 hours, of training per year can be acquired in the area of research or graduate teaching, but the curriculum must directly include client welfare and health well-being
