It has been published that in December of 2009, that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) granted The Equality State almost $340,000 to help homeless residents with job training, health care, mental health counseling through psychology schools in Wyoming, as well as child care and, if necessary, substance abuse treatment. Though the image of the Cowboy State may be that of a tough, gritty loner capable of handling any situation, the reality is that anyone may find themselves in need of the help of a qualified professional to help deal with the stresses of everyday life, or the extraordinary stresses placed on the mind of a homeless or addicted person. Wyoming is no stranger to alcoholism, child abuse, depression or homelessness.

And as the Orleans County Daily News reported, in a land where the space between neighbors can be vast, and access to professional counseling or even loved ones and friends may be difficult (especially in the tough winters), the suicide rate in some rural areas of the state can be as bad as in urban areas. From 2005-2007, 17 Wyoming County residents committed suicide, bringing the county’s rate as high as 12.4 residents per 10,000.

People’s struggles to maintain their mental health is as tough in Wyoming as it is anywhere in the United States, and the psychology schools in Wyoming are highly highly adapted to providing the training necessary for psychologists to deal with the particular stresses that Wyoming residents may face.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Psychologists in Cheyenne, Casper, Laramie, Gillette and Rock Springs, Wyoming may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Campbell County Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, Saint John's Medical Center and Wyoming Medical Center.
