The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) recognizes eleven radiologic technologist schools and training programs in West Virginia. Seven of them are certificate programs, with three offering an Associate in Science or Associate in Applied Science degree with only one that has a four-year Bachelor of Science. About half are offered through hospitals and medical centers while the remainder are located at colleges and universities. Most radiology technologist schools in West Virginia are in Wheeling, Morgantown and Huntington.
JRCERT is the only organization recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE) for accrediting both campus and online programs. The West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners requires that standards for approved schools follow “the current standards as established by the JRCERT, JRCNMT, or standards determined programmatically equivalent by the Board.” The JRCNMT refers to the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology, which is equivalent to JRCERT in that it is the only agency in the field recognized by the USDE. West Virginia requires at minimum a 24 month course of study for licensing.
