The opportunity to attend radiologic technologist schools and training programs in Wyoming is limited. There are only two instate colleges certified by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), located in Casper and Cheyenne, both offering two-year programs in radiography.
Living in Wyoming, online learning is a sensible option, especially for those already working as technicians who want to gain more responsibility. It is wise to still look for a program endorsed by the JRCERT, which is the only credentialing body approved by the Department of Education to certify both distance learning as well as on campus radiology programs.
State law calls for a Wyoming Board of Radiologic Technologists Examiners approved two-year education. The candidate must also pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist examination.
A JRCERT recognized curriculum will include both general education subjects such as mathematics and humanities as well as career specific coursework. This will generally include the following topics: basic principles of radiologic science, clinical practice, medical ethics and law, anatomy, medical terminology, pharmacology and drug administration.
Also covered is radiation biology and safety, image acquisition, processing and analysis. Magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and mammography are specialized modalities that, if studied, will make for a more versatile technologist.
