The name Rhode Island is misleading in the fact that it is not an island. It is, however replete with many waterways and bays. It is estimated that about 30% of the state is part of these oceanic waters. Because the ocean floor is considered Federal, these parts of the state are actually federal land. Narragansett Bay is the main part of Rhode Island’s water system. It is here in this bay that you can find a cluster of about 30 islands. These islands make up the state, along with the larger part of the mainland.
Rhode Island is the smallest state in the union and due to its lack of land mass, agriculture is a minimal source of economic stability in the state. Rhode Island’s primary industry is finance.
