Education for Public Health in Rhode Island

While some Rhode Island public health schools offer undergrad work in Public health, the accepted standard is a Masters Degree of PHD. This degree is intended to present a competent understanding of combined public health issues in among both domestic and foreign populations.

The degree prepares you to address the science, psychology, and sociology associated with public health concerns. Courses will include areas that cover law and policy that affect the public’s health and welfare, along with how to carry out a broad based public health program in a given area.

The student will study scientific courses along with general administrative classes in order to equip the graduate with the necessary skills to carry out the varied duties of Public Health.

Continuing Education – What is the requirement?

All certified Public Health designees must complete a minimum of 50 hours of coursework for CE credit in a 24-month cycle. When choosing where to obtain your CE units, be certain that the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) has given their approval of the courses.

Every 10 years there is a competency review that seeks to insure your overall skill-set as a CPH.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Public Health Professionals in Providence, Warwick, Cranston and Pawtucket, Rhode Island may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Rhode Island Hospital, Kent Hospital, Our Lady of Fatima Hospital and The Miriam Hospital.
