Seeking a master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) offers students flexible options for gaining a degree. Along with local university and college programs at sites in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and Huntsville, there are also distance and online choices. An example of an MSW Distance Education program is a 60- semester hour course of study. The first part of the program develops your professional foundation (social work major), and is typically completed your first year. The second year will focus on classes specific to social work, and field placement.
To enter the graduate program, the social work degree in Alabama requires you to have first completed your Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSW). The Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) is a four-year, 128 credit hour degree. Most programs are designed to allow you to pursue the degree on either a full or part-time basis.
