Obtaining a social work degree in Arizona is a fairly straightforward process owing to the wide range of universities, colleges, and distance learning programs available in the state. Arizona is home to twenty-four public colleges as well as fifty-one private institutes, all of which offer a robust collection of two and four-year degree programs. The number of private colleges and vocational education organizations in Arizona has sky-rocketed in recent decades, vastly increasing the state's mean education level for its citizens and improving it’s population's prospects for a sound formal education. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCED), the state awarded more than 125,000 degrees in 2009, or about 177% of the national average.
The NCED recently published a report revealing that a shocking 40% of university students nationwide will eventually drop out of their classes without completing their degree programs. The high rate of unsuccessful college students could be due to the difficult adjustment necessary to become a full-time student. Nowadays, however, social work students do not need to radically change their lives and delve directly into on-campus student life in order to attain their education goals. Many students in Arizona instead opt to engage in properly CSWE accredited distance learning programs that allow them to earn credits towards their degree program of choice at a manageable, steady pace.
