Acquiring a social work degree in Colorado is more difficult than in many other states due to the state's strict requirements and the high expectations the state sets for these professionals. While it's possible to obtain a Bachelor's of Social Work in the state, either a master or doctorate level degree are required for licensure. While Colorado's requirements are more rigorous than most, their large collection of educational programs makes obtaining the necessary education a straightforward, uncomplicated process. The state is home to nearly thirty public colleges and universities, as well as an additional fifty private education institutions. On average, more than sixty-five thousand students are awarded a degree or higher learning certificate from a Colorado college each year. Most major universities in Colorado offer the degree programs necessary for social work licensing.
Students studying to acquire their LSW in Colorado often rely on distance education opportunities. Distance learning, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, has becoming more and more commonplace over the past several decades, with recent studies showing that 65% of colleges nationwide offer at least some on-line courses. On-line courses represent an excellent opportunity for many, as they allow students to begin accumulating credit without committing to full-time student life.
