The Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) develops generalists who employ problem-solving techniques to intervene in multiple-level client systems.  Coursework includes studies in social welfare, practice with individuals, families and organizations and issues relevant to global society, providing a theoretical basis for practical application after graduation.  Students are required to complete supervised fieldwork and those who pursue an honors concentration must also complete a senior research project.

Students enrolled in the Maser of Science in Social Work (MSSW) program are prepared to effect significant, positive change in the lives of at-risk populations.  Classes address concepts such as diversity, oppression, economic justice, psychopathology and foundations in research.  Individuals are also required to complete supervised fieldwork experiences.  In culmination of their studies, students must either develop and defend a thesis on an original research project or complete a comprehensive examination.  To accommodate individuals’ scheduling needs, the College offers the MSSW through full-time, part-time and distance education programs.

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Work emphasizes the scientific method and the ways it can be implemented to improve and to broaden knowledge within the field.  It is intended to prepare students to transition into roles such as educators, researchers, policy makers and administrators.  Coursework includes intensive studies in data analyses, and students must complete and defend a dissertation as a degree requirement.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring social workers in Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Clarksville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Memorial Hospital, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and Nashville's Baptist Hospital.
