The 2008 figures that are posted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics list 2,630 registered dental hygienists in South Carolina. This number is higher than average and is only expected to increase as jobs in those fields continue to increase. Dental hygiene jobs require the completion of a dental hygiene program, but since this can usually be completed in two years, it makes dental hygiene an excellent career choice as well.

The following are the requirements for how to become a dental hygienist in South Carolina as set by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Board of Dentistry.

Graduate from a dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association and complete a course in CPR
Pass the National Board Exam (for a list of acceptable exams, contact the South Carolina Board of Dentistry)
Submit completed application, $150 application fee, and all required examination scores and forms, to the South Carolina Board of Dentistry
Complete, successfully, the South Carolina Jurisprudence Exam which is mailed to you and is open-book, upon receipt of your application by the board
