The following are the requirements for how to become a dental hygienist in South Carolina as set by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Board of Dentistry.
- Graduate from a dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association and complete a course in CPR
- Pass the National Board Exam (for a list of acceptable exams, contact the South Carolina Board of Dentistry)
- Submit completed application, $150 application fee, and all required examination scores and forms, to the South Carolina Board of Dentistry
- Complete, successfully, the South Carolina Jurisprudence Exam which is mailed to you and is open-book, upon receipt of your application by the board
