Once you have found an accredited program and trains students to become medical coders and billers. While the state of South Carolina does not require its medical billers and coders to receive formal training, many employers will not hire medical billers or coders without proper training. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) accredits many such programs. AHIMA programs are also accredited by the National Cancer Resigtrar's Association (NCRA). This opens up positions in medical billing and coding as a cancer registrar. You will graduate with a diploma, certificate, associate or Bachelor's degree, depending upon the school and program you choose.
