To obtain national certification, an individual must complete an associate level program through one of the online or campus based South Carolina medical technician schools. This program must be a Medical Technology program that includes a clinical rotation or practicum. Upon completion of this program, the individual may request an application from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Once the application is returned and accepted, the individual may then sit for the exam offered by the Board of Registry that is administered by the ASCP. If the educational requirements are met and the exam is complete and passed with a satisfactory score, then the individual is certified and may submit their information to an employer for acceptance in the state of South Carolina.
