Successful Physician Assistants have strong writing, verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal, scientific reasoning, and mathematical skills, which students can foster through classes in English, communications, health, chemistry, and high school mathematics. Students should also have a basic understanding of human anatomy by the time they begin one of the Physician Assistant programs in South Carolina, so they should focus their last two years of study on biology and human anatomy.

A degree from an accredited college or university is a necessary component for entry into Physician Assistant programs in South Carolina. Students who become Physician Assistants usually major in nursing, biology, organic chemistry, or a related field, which can fulfill any of the program's prerequisite entry requirements. Students who major in another subject will never be denied admission from an Physician Assistant program, but they may be required to follow a set of prerequisite courses.
