When you speak of Public Health, it applies to a formal degree and focus of study, a specific discipline that has wide application.  One of the beneficial things you can do as you pursue South Carolina public health careers is seek to get a nationally recognized certificate. To do this you will take certain steps in the certification process.

The very first thing you will do is complete your Masters Degree or PHD in Public Health by attending an accredited school. After you are finished and you have met the degree requirements, you may then proceed with application to the National Board of Public Health Examiners Certified in Public Health (NBPHE) to take the Board exam. The exam is only offered at certain times and you will want to check their website for the dates that will coincide with your graduation.

You will need to apply for the exam online. They will also need you to forward your official sealed school records to them. Part of the initial stage is their verification of your grades and course of study. Once you have sent the application and paid any charges associated with the test, they will process it. They will then notify you by email that everything is in process.

It is very important to give them your correct email address and your regular mailing address. They will not send the “schedule permit” to your email. It will come by US mail. This is an important document, as you will have to take it with you to gain entry to your examination. You will also need accurate and current ID without name variations.

When your “schedule permit” arrives, you can get in touch with the testing center and they will issue a day and time for the test. After you have passed the test, you may add “Certified in Public Health”(CPH) to your credentials.
