Required Education for Registered Nurses in South Carolina
South Carolina RN schools offer many educational opportunities for an individual interested in becoming a nurse. The first option a person has is to attain an associate’s degree from one of South Carolina’s 14 accredited associate programs. This is a great opportunity for a person to become prepared in the career path of a health care professional, or a student looking to continue their education.
If a 4 year university seems to be more practical for you, South Carolina offers 13 approved programs where an individual can earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing. This allows for a more direct career path, and also allows for greater advancement opportunities within the field of nursing. This also sets up the option of enrolling in a master’s program. A person who holds a master’s degree in nursing is much more likely to advance in the field and become employed in a higher paying position.
Continuing Education Requirements for Registered Nurses in South Carolina
The South Carolina Board of Nursing has set specific guidelines for continuing education credits that need to be obtained in order to be eligible for license renewal. The Board requires that each individual acquire at least 30 hours from a continued education activity. This can include, but not limited to, refresher courses, other academic courses, seminars, and many other learning presentations. Academic courses can focus on the field of nursing or other related areas. Verification of every continuing education credit must be approved by the supervisor of the program the individual attended.
