The field of dental hygiene is growing. Educational opportunities certificates, degree programs, as well as licensing in South Dakota. There are many opportunities for dental hygienists in South Dakota and now is the time to take advantage of these opportunities.

Steps to Become a Dental Hygienist in South Dakota

The South Dakota State Board of Dentistry is the board that confers licenses. For dental hygienists, if someone is applying for a license and recently graduated from a dental hygiene program, they must have passed the CRDTS or WREB exams in the last five years
  • Register with board in order to administer nitrous oxide or local anesthesia
  • Must have graduated from an accredited dental hygiene school
  • Submit with application:
    • $50.00 fee to pay for dental hygiene exam
    • Copy of diploma or verification of completion of dental hygiene program graduation
    • Certified letters verifying license numbers in other states if candidate has them
    • Copy of birth certificate
    • Copy of national board grades
    • Copy of CRDTS or WREB scores
    • Copy of CPR card
    • Notarized photo
    • Take the SD Jurisprudence test and submit results and $20.00 with application
