Medical Assistant Certification in South Dakota – SD
To become certified, you will need to successfully pass the national Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam, which is administered by the certifying board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and receive certification. It is highly recommended that you complete formal training through a South Dakota medical assistant school first. Next, you will need to update or obtain provider-level CPR certification. Then, submit an application to the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteophathic Examiners with an application fee of $10 and a copy of the diploma from an accredited medical assistant training program. Lastly, you will need to obtain and submit a Supervision Registration form to the Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners. This form indicates who will have on-site supervisory responsibility for the applicant’s work on the job site.
There is no continuing education requirement for license renewal in South Dakota. Medical assistants who need to renew their registration with the Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners must apply for renewal before December 31st of odd-numbered years. Medical assistants must maintain their CPR certification to obtain license renewal. The renewal application fee is $5.
