Slower-paced than the East Coast and competitive Northeast, South Dakota might not be the number one destination in the United States for education-hungry college coeds, however, this state is abundant with quality educational programs and technical schools. Overall, the job market is about average in the area of job creation, making education and certification even more important, as they will give the aspiring MRI tech an edge over other applicants.

Before pursuing certification specifically for medical resonance imaging, it is recommended (and even required as a prerequisite for some programs in South Dakota) that an aspiring MRI tech first complete a program in radiologic technology, radiography, or a closely related field.

The length of the program will depend on what the student would like to achieve. A direct route to MRI Tech certification can take as little as one or two years. But keep in mind that this is generally accomplished after some sort of primary educational program in radiology or a related field. Another potential path is an associate’s degree, which typically takes two or three years. A bachelor’s degree in this field can last anywhere from four to five years.

Students should look for South Dakota MRI technician schools that are accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
