South Dakota Nurse Informatics Certification - SD

The quickest way to becoming a nursing informatics professional in South Dakota to is earn South Dakota nursing informatics certification through examination by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). To accomplish this, individuals must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
1. Must have a current/active registered nurse (RN) license granted by South Dakota or another state
2. Must have at least two years of work experience practicing as a RN
3. Must have completed at least a baccalaureate degree program in nursing (or a closely related field)
4. Must have completed at least thirty hours of nurse informatics continuing education activities within the three years prior to certification
5. Must have completed 2,000 hours of nurse informatics practice within previous three years or 1,000 practice hours and twelve academic semester hours in nurse informatics administered by a graduate level nurse informatics program or completion of a nurse informatics graduate program that is comprised of at least 200 hours of supervised practicum
Once eligibility requirements are met, individuals will need to obtain, complete, and submit an ANCC “Informatics Nursing Certification Application” form. This form will also be used to register for a competency national examination that is required in order to gain South Dakota nursing informatics certification. This application will request a $270-$390 application fee along with a $125 examination fee. Once application is submitted and approved, individuals will be eligible to sit for examination. Upon passing examination, individuals will be mailed a nursing informatics certificate to practice in South Dakota. South Dakota nurse informatics certification will be valid for five years, at which point renewal will be necessary.
