There are two degree programs in the state of South Dakota: a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, or DPT, and a Transitional Doctorate of Physical Therapy, or t-DPT. The DPT program typically consists of three years, or 136 credit hours, of educational study in the field of physical therapy and is considered entry-level type education for the goal of becoming a physical therapist.
The t-DPT, on the other hand, is geared towards existing licensed physical therapists that are continuing their education and seeking to obtain higher degrees of authority. Most completed courses of the t-DPT program will end up consisting of 25 credit hours and will help a physical therapist to meet their continuing education requirement.
But, again, it is important to make sure that any school claiming to teach the DPT program or the t-DPT program is accredited by the CAPTE and that it be affiliated with the American Physical Therapy Association.
There are many online South Dakota physical therapy school options as well.
