The steps to a South Dakota career in Public Health:

  • A Bachelor’s, Masters Degree of Public Health, or a Doctorate is required to pursue South Dakota public health careers. While there may be other educational options, they will not allow you to take the test and achieve certification.
  • Submit an exam application at www.publichealthexam.org.

  • An email validating the acceptance of your application will be sent to you after the Board has all the necessary requisites. This includes your transcripts and the exam fees.
  • An essential “scheduling permit” is sent in the mail to your home address. This is not available on the website and they will not email it to you. Make sure you have it with you when you go to take the test, as it is your “ticket” in.
  •  Prometric test center will offer you your test schedule and designate the site you will attend.
  • When you are done with the exam, you will be notified of a pass or fail grade.
  • If you pass the Board exam you will have, the official “Certified in Public Health” (CPH) credentialed designation added to your degree.

Certification Procedure in South Dakota for Public Health

The reason that a certificate is offered for Public Health is the high standards that the certificate indicates. The exam and the steps you must take will set you apart when the time comes to seek employment. The certification is voluntary, but you may find it to be vital. The National Board of Public Health Examiners Certified in Public Health (NBPHE) exam is the test you will take to be certified.
