Public Health Education Needs in South Dakota

As you search for South Dakota public health schools, you may find that you can take a dedicated program leading up to your Masters in Public Health, or you will obtain a bachelor’s degree in a related field and add the Masters portion after. Either way you go, you want to check for accreditation of the program. The certificate in CPH is only available if you get your Post Graduate degree. These programs are found at traditional colleges, dedicated institutions of higher learning, and online colleges.
The nature of the classes will provide you training in dealing with society as a whole. Unlike a doctor who treats an individual patient, you will need skills to organize groups of health care providers treating and following up on designated portions of the populace. Some of the courses that will prepare you for this type of work are:

• Biostatistics
• Epidemiology
• Heath care structure
• Environmental wellness programs
• Health administration skills

Continuing Education Requirements

There are two phases of continuing education. The first is an ongoing biannual requisite that each CPH must complete. Every two years you will need to accumulate at least fifty credits in order to remain current…then once every ten years, you will experience an overall evaluation of your combined skills accumulated in that period.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Public Health Professionals in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Aberdeen and Watertown, South Dakota may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Sanford USD Medical Center, Rapid City Regional Hospital, Avera Saint Luke's Hospital and Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.
