RN Continuing Education in South Dakota
South Dakota does not require continuing education credits to maintain the Registered Nurse licensure in the state. Instead, nurses are employed as RNs for 140 hours in a 12-month period or 480 hours in a 6-year period. If a nurse has not completed the required hours in the mandated timeframe, nurses can opt to complete a refresher course from a school that is approved by the Board of Nursing in South Dakota. The refresher course includes hours in nursing theory, technological and nurse practice developments. The course can be completed as a correspondence or at-home course. Nurses who are taking the refresher course must obtain a Limited License to practice and are eligible to have their RN license renewed after passing the course and completing the renewal application process.
