To become certified, potential candidates must complete their education along with their clinical experience and at least a year in a clinical Fellowship.

Applications can be requested by contacting the American Speech – Language – Hearing Association (ASHA). Once the certification is complete, the certificate holder will be eligible to apply for a license in the state of Utah.  Applicants can request their application from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. The application should be returned along with the Certificate of Competence to the same facility with the $70 fee included. Utah differs from other states in that license holders will find their license expires on the same day ever two years. Therefore, new license holders should pay attention to the date of expiration because it may actually expire before two years have passed.
