New Hampshire's Speech-Language Pathologists can plant more than potatoes—they can plant confidence into those who suffer from communication disorders. With the senior population on the rise,  the chances of strokes, dementia, and other speech-debilitating illnesses or occurrences may also increase. This creates a strong market for Speech-Language Pathologists in New Hampshire, who can expect higher than average job growth in the next 10 years.

New Hampshire Speech-Language Pathologist Education

New Hampshire's Speech-Language Pathologists spend four years in their undergraduate program, where they learn the basics of anatomy and physiology, audiology, sign language, psychology, aphasia, and other communication disorders. Undergraduate students also gain insight into their careers by observing professionals and participating in speech-language-hearing organizations.

Speech pathology schools in New Hampshire offering Master's programs will require an additional two years. Here students concentrate on a particular issue within speech pathology, and gain supervised clinical experience. Most programs include classes in cognition and neural bases, research methodologies, hearing practicum, school-age language disorders, motor speech disorders, voice disorders, and more.

Speech-Language Pathologists in New Hampshire must complete 30 continuing education hours (CEUs) every two years. Fifteen of those hours must be devoted to continuing their knowledge of new theories and practices within speech pathology; the remaining 15 hours can be devoted to expanding their knowledge of audiology or another field.

New Hampshire's Speech-Language Pathologists usually gain their CEUs through educational seminars offered by the New Hampshire Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or an accredited college or university. Most SPLs use these hours as an opportunity to gain more credentials in their field, or obtain postgraduate degrees.
