New Jersey ranks 40th out of 52 states and territories when it comes to regular physical exercise by its citizens, according to statemaster.com. However, this statistic does not negate the demand for allied health professionals in sports medicine in New Jersey. Often, individuals who do not exercise frequently tend to overdo it when they do exercise, creating sports injuries that require rehabilitation and/or treatment by a sports medicine professional. Those who earn a sports medicine degree in New Jersey, whether it is an undergraduate or a graduate degree, will find many opportunities awaiting them in the state.

Schools throughout New Jersey and online offer programs in sports medicine education to train students to become physical therapists, fitness trainers, exercise physiologists, physical therapy assistants and more. Colleges offer these programs in a variety of formats and with different requirements for admission. Most of these programs will teach students theories of exercise, nutrition, movement, anatomy, and physiology. They will prepare students to become certified, licensed sports medicine professionals who are qualified to work in New Jersey following graduation.

Students may find work in hospitals and medical centers in the state such as Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Hackensack University Medical Center and Bergen Regional Medical Center; as well as in physician’s practices, schools, and with college and professional sports teams including the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and the NBA’s New Jersey Nets.
