All three certification levels require candidates to complete supervised field work and obtain full time work experience in a substance abuse counseling setting.  In addition, substance abuse counselors in California must take and pass a certification examination administered by CCBADC prior to being certified.   Well educated and certified substance abuse counselors will have arrange of career opportunities at a number of fine medical facilities throughout California, including Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco, Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, L.A. County and USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, and Huntington Hospital in Pasadena.
