Become a Dental Assistant in Tennessee - TN

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently 5,070 registered dental assistants in Tennessee. To become a dental assistant in Tennessee, by law you must register in this state. To become a registered dental assistant one must:

  • Be 18 years of age;
  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate;
  • Maintain a current CPR certificate;
  • Apply for registration to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry.

Additional requirements must be met in order to be a Certified Dental Assistant or a Expanded Functions Dental Assistant. The main differences among the type of dental assistant you are titled are the duties you can perform and assist with. There is not set education for most dental assistants other than on-the-job training, however there are currently eight school in Tennessee that offer dental assistant programs.
