After you decide you want to pursue a degree in gerontology and know which level you’d like to pursue (bachelors, master’s or doctorate), the next question often asked is, “how much is the gerontologist salary in Tennessee?” This depends on the job you land and the city you live in. There are a variety of positions your degree can prepare you for--here are a few:

  • Social worker in a hospice program in Kingsport
  • Director of an assisted living facility in Memphis
  • Assistant professor in geriatrics in Memphis
  • Cardiovascular disease epidemiology geriatrics/ gerontology in Nashville

The range of annual salary is quite generous. For the doctorate degree you can expect to earn upwards of $180,000 for a position in cardiovascular disease epidemiology gerontology. Holding a bachelor’s degree could qualify you for the director position in a care facility. This job pays about $70,000 a year according to indeed.com.

One good online resource is the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (http://www.tennessee.gov/comaging/resources.html). They have general information about aging concerns such as Alzheimer’s and disabilities. They are also a potential source for employment possibilities in the state. They have a list of health facilities, nursing homes, and assisted living directories. All of these facilities may offer future employment for you when the time comes.
