Continuing Education for Tennessee Physician Assistants

The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners issues a two-year license to physician assistants who have graduated from accredited Physician Assistant programs in Tennessee.  Renewal notification will be mailed to the license holder 45 days prior to the expiration of the license.  The renewal fee of $260 can be paid and the entire renewal process completed on-line through the Tennessee Department of Health 120 days prior to the expiration date. 

Graduates of Physician Assistant programs in Tennessee must also complete 100 hours of continuing medical education during each two-year renewal cycle.  At least one hour should address prescribing practices.  The remaining hours are divided into Category I and Category II.  The hours must be consistent with the requirements of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (www.nccpa.net).  Logging of the hours will be required in the license renewal process and proof of completion should be kept for at least four years.
