Tennessee Public Health - How to obtain a Certified Public Health (CPH) Degree
While the field of public health encompasses many branches of study and focus, in order to become a Certified Public Health worker and pursue Tennessee public health careers, there are certain standards an individual must follow in order to qualify. This process is not a requirement, but more an advantage to the Public Health Worker seeking employment.
The reason you may want to seek certification is to prove you hold the necessary skills needed to work in the public health sector. The National Board of Public Health Examiners Certified in Public Health exam is the test that affords you certification.
Some institutions now offer minors and Bachelor Degrees in the Public Health field. To become certified, however, you will need at least a Masters Degree from a CEPH accredited school program for public health
- The deadline to complete your program is July 31 if you intend to take the exam in that same year.
- Submit all educational transcripts in order to allow time for verification
- Go to the exam website (www.publichealthexam.org) and fill in your application.
- They will send you an email once they have received your application.
- A “scheduling permit” will be mailed to the address you indicated on your application. This will allow you entrance to the exam.
- Once you have received your permit, you may then contact the testing site to set your exam date.
- When you pass your test, you will then have the official designation of “Certified in Public Health” (CPH) included with your degree.
