Because Tennessee does not have specific state certification/licensing requirements for sonographers at this time, aspiring sonographers often pursue accreditation through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARMDS). Thirty continuing education credits must be completed every three year period in order to maintain an active status.  A registrant can find out when their three-year period begins by logging into their account online at the ARDMS website.  The American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) has several resources to obtain CME credits.  For example, the society offers CME self-study tests given by the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine (JUM).  Furthermore, online video programs are available to view for CME credits.  To verify compliance with CME credits, the ARDMS has an audit check system.  If you are randomly selected for an audit, it is the registrant's responsibility to provide all proper documentation.  A complete list of CME credit documentation can be found at the ARDMS website.  The ARDMS does advise to keep all CME credit documentation for 4 years, in case of an audit.

Through online programs and campus based schools, aspiring ultrasound techs in Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville, Tennessee can prepare to be employed at some of the most highly respected hospitals in the state including the Memorial Hospital, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Nashville's Baptist Hospital.
