Military Texas Dental Hygienist

A dental specialist is in the military combines the services of a dental hygienist and a dental assistant. They assist dentists in providing the proper dental care for military personnel and their families. Duties of a dental specialist may include:

Manage dental office and patient records.
Assist dentists with all aspects of dental care.
Perform minor dental responsibilities such as removing sutures.

A dental specialist is required to complete nine weeks of Basic Training in the military as well as 30 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. The skills of a dental specialist can most easily be transferred to a dental assistant civilian job. Those who serve as a dental specialist in the military will also qualify to use their GI Bill to further their education, possibly as a dental hygienist.
