EKG Technician Training in Texas

In Texas, EKG technician training ranges in price from about $1450 to $3000. Programs are usually about 10 weeks long, although some may last as long as one year. Both hands-on technical and clinical courses are required. Some of the program's courses may be completed through distance learning online. Examples of courses included in most EKG technician training programs include heart anatomy and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal issues regarding patient contact, laboratory assisting, respiratory therapy assisting, electrocardiography, and echocardiography.

It does not matter which national certification organization you take an examination through, you will be thoroughly tested on all of the basic facts and aspects of the EKG Tech job that a person who has been trained should know. These include basic cardiovascular physiology and anatomy, techniques involved in electrocardiograms, cardiovascular electrophysiology, stress tech techniques, holter monitoring, and cardiac medications. After passing your national certification exam, be sure to keep your certification current through fulfilling continuing education requirements. For ASPT, it's six credits per year; for NCCT, you must take 14 hours of continuing education per year; and for CCI, you have to fulfill 16 hours of continuing education over a three-year period. Some organizations may require you to complete renewal applications and pay fees to keep your certification current as well.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring EKG Technicians in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, El Paso, Arlington, Corpus Christi, Plano, Laredo, Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital and Baylor Medical Centers.
