Texas Nurse Informatics Certification - TX

In Texas, generally a master-level or post-master certificate level program, nursing informatics graduate degree or certificate programs provide the necessary skills and knowledge to advance a nursing informatics career. Students in nursing informatics in Texas will learn to design, implement and manage information systems and to thoroughly understand health care information technology. Texas graduate programs in nursing informatics involve the use of technology and equipment to enhance the quality of patient care. Nursing Informatics Licensure, Certification in Texas

Applicants in Texas must apply to the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) either online or on paper to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses. To gain licensure as a Registered Nurse in Texas, candidates must graduate from a state-approved nursing school program, pass a criminal background check and pass the NCLEX. Among the nursing schools in Texas, 84 offer accredited programs, and nursing students can enter the field with one of four credentials: Certificate or diploma from a hospital-based training program, associate's degree in nursing, bachelor's degree in nursing or a master's degree in nursing. Nurses must also complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years to demonstrate competency in their field.

Advanced training and Board Certification in Nursing Informatics can be obtained from the American Nurses’ Association Credentialing Center. This exam is a computer-based test. Applications to take the computer-based exam are accepted throughout the year and tests are administered during a 90-day window at a time and location convenient for the applicant. These certifications must be renewed every five years. There is not a specific Texas nursing informatics certification; rather this is all done through the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center.
