Nursing Informatics Licensure, Certification in Texas

Applicants in Texas must apply to the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) either online or on paper to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses. To gain licensure as a Registered Nurse in Texas, candidates must graduate from a state-approved nursing school program, pass a criminal background check and pass the NCLEX. Nurses must also complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years to demonstrate competency in their field.

Applications to take the computer-based exam are accepted throughout the year and tests are administered during a 90-day window at a time and location convenient for the applicant. These certifications must be renewed every five years. There is not a specific Texas nursing informatics certification; rather this is all done through the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center.
