Working in the field of public health takes a certain type of personality and devotion. Public health workers are in place to protect and serve society as a community rather than one person. Professionals like Social Workers, Behavioral Science professionals and those who work in the area of biostatistics are focused on making the world a safer place to live. Texas has much to offer in the way of employment for those who choose to work in this type of setting.

Texas public health schools offer programs that are quite extensive, and rightly so. These are the professionals who work to protect the public and as such they have a responsibility to be informed to the utmost degree so that they can perform the functions of their position without hesitation.

Those who wish to work in this field should plan on obtaining a degree at a minimum of the bachelor level. Since Texas is such a bilingual state, candidates should further plan to obtain knowledge of the Spanish language. Those who choose to move forward should seek a Master degree in whatever area they wish to specialize in. For instance, in the example of the Social Worker, their major must be in social work and the program must be approved by the Council on Social Work Education. It’s important to be sure that the program is approved by the appropriate council of accreditation before spending too much time in an area that is not approved.
