A career in dental hygiene is on the rise across the country, and especially in Utah. There are around 1,530 dental hygienists in Utah according to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, May 2008 report. This profession is projected to grow by over 30% between now and the year 2016. With all this expected growth, and the lofty salary, it makes this a great profession to pursue.

To become a dental hygienist in Utah, complete the following steps:

  1. Earn a degree from a dental hygiene school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  2. Pass a National Board Examination.
  3. Pass an acceptable Regional Practical Examination (WREB, NERB, SRTA, or CRDTS).
  4. Submit an application, along with the $60 non-refundable fee, and all required information and documents, to the Utah Board of Dentistry.
  5. You will now be considered a registered dental hygienist in Utah.
