A gerontology degree in Utah allows you to work with older adults in a variety of careers. There are several educational paths to prepare for a future in gerontology. The first is obtaining a dedicated bachelor’s degree specific to gerontology, often called a Bachelor of Human Services-Gerontology.

This degree will cover many topics that have to do with all aspects of aging and human development. If you decide you want to continue on to a master’s degree or doctorate in gerontology, these post- graduate degrees are also available. One other possibility is a degree in a different human service area such as psychology or nursing, with an expertise in the area of aging. This is achieved through a post-graduate certificate program. It is designed to train you to work with older adults within your chosen field.

If you decide a dedicated bachelor ‘s degree is the way you want to go, here are some things to expect. Your degree program will combine psychology and human service classes designed to get you ready to work with the elderly population in a variety of settings. This means everything from learning how aging affects a person mentally and physically, to being trained as an advocate for the elderly. This degree touches on just about all facets of life affecting an older adult. Because of this, you will have a wide range of course topics within your degree program.
