While larger institutions look for candidates with a master’s degree, a Bachelor of Science degree in healthcare administration may be an acceptable credential at smaller healthcare facilities or at the department level at some of the larger institutions.

For a Bachelor of Science Health Administrative Services degree, required courses often include epidemiology and biostatistics, health care networks and databases, health care systems analysis and design, biomedical research support, health care marketing, health communication, human resource development in health care, health care administrative and supervisory theory, health care financial administration, accounting, and health care financial administration.  A practicum/internship is also mandatory. Some graduate-level programs allow students to specialize, such as managing hospitals, nursing care facilities, mental health facilities, or medical groups.
