After completing formal training through a Utah medical assistant school and the externship, the candidate must apply for the CMA exam for Certification or Recertification. As of April 1st, 2009, the CMA exam is available for candidates to take at any time during the year. The cost of applying for the test is a $125 for recent graduates who have just finished a course that is accredited by the CAAHEP or ABHES. All other students have to pay a fee of $250. The modes of payment for the test are only the following. Payment affects the scheduling of the exam. The earlier the candidate submits payment, the earlier they are scheduled for the exam.
The final and most important step for the candidate besides finishing a program through a Utah medical assistant school is to pass the exam. While it might seem like the most obvious, studying is of great importance. While practical experience might help the candidate with study, it is also important that they also retain the basic information available in all the coursework that they would have covered in the course. Doing a revision of all the study coursework can be greatly beneficial while taking the exam.
