How to Become a Radiology Tech in Utah - UT

    1. The first step to becoming a radiologist technician in Utah is to earn a high school diploma or equivalent education (GED). Background curriculum in math, physics, chemistry and biology is beneficial.

  1. Next, enroll in a secondary-education degree program through a Utah radiology tech training program or online program. Salt Lake City, Ogden and Saint George all provide radiology technician programs through state and community colleges. These radiology programs offer either a two-year associate’s degree or a four-year bachelor’s degree. An integral part of these programs centers on clinical training in radiology equipment, safety precautions, patient care, and medical instrumentation and radiology procedures. Each program requires the completion of pre-requisite coursework in English, algebra, anatomy and physiology.
  2. Some students opt to enroll in a one-year radiology certificate program administered through an accredited hospital or the Armed Forces; however, certificates in radiology will not qualify applicants for the national certification necessary for state licensure eligibility.
  3. The next step is to get certified as a registered technician (RT). By completing a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiology Technology (JRCERT) accredited radiology education program applicants fulfill a crucial component in obtaining an ARRT or NMTCB certification. In addition, applicants must pass a criminal background check. The last major certification requirement is receiving a passing score in an ARRT radiology examination. Applicants are allowed three attempts in a three-year time period to pass examination. Radiology technicians cannot acquire a Utah state license to practice without proof of certification.
