The Utah surgical technologist training program is one of the last and most important pieces of your career puzzle. It is during this portion of your career training that you will see all of the pieces of your educational studies come together and learn how to apply them when you are working in an operative setting. Because you are likely interested in how to become a surgical tech in Utah, you should understand how this training experience will prepare you for work as a surgical tech.

Utah surgical technologist training programs are taught in a hands-on manner that actually gives you the chance to perform as a surgical tech. Most schools require 3 to 6 months of training, but this can vary between schools. It is during this time that you will work as a team with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists to complete a surgical procedure and where you will learn things about:

  • Sterilization of surgical equipment and operating environment
  • How to ensure patient safety
  • Usage of lights and suction machines during surgery
  • Preparation of surgical incision site for suturing
  • How to function as a member of a surgical team

You should also be aware that most employers in Utah will not hire uncertified surgical technologists. So, your next step will be to get certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). After you have passed their test, you will be considered a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
