Without state regulation of massage therapy, the requirements of Vermont’s employers − whether in the public or private sector − will vary. It is strongly recommended that Massage Therapists complete their educational and training curriculum through an online program or a Vermont massage school with a program that is: a) accredited by either COMTA or by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and b) designed to satisfy the criteria for the NCETMB testing and credentialing.

To be eligible to take the NCETMB test, coursework totaling a minimum of 500 hours must be completed with a school or program having an NCBTMB “Assigned School Code.”  A minimum number of hours of study must fall into each of the following education categories:

    • Human body systems (physiology, kinesiology, anatomy), total 125 hours
    • Theory and application of massage and bodywork assessment, 200 hours of supervised classroom and hands-on instruction
    • Pathology, 40 hours
    • Business practices and ethics, 10 hours total, with a minimum of six hours in ethics
    • Other Massage Therapy related subjects, total 125 hours
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Massage Therapists in Burlington, Essex, Rutland and Colchester, Vermont may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Fletcher Allen Health Care - Medical Center Campus, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Central Vermont Medical Center and Southwestern Vermont Health Care.

We currently have no schools offerings in VT for this career path at this time. (Check back with us)
