Vermont nursing informatics certification is imperative for a successful career. Therefore, to gain a nursing informatics certificate in Vermont, individuals must participate in national certification and examination. Both the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) are accredited agencies that administer examination and resulting certification for nurse informatics. However, before applying for certification, individuals must first complete eligibility requirements. Each agency has different education expectations prior to certification.
For example, the HIMSS requests that all applicants hold a baccalaureate degree + 5 years of experience in information and management experience, of which three years must be in health care. Or, applicants must hold a graduate degree + 3 years of experience in information and management system experience, of which 2 years must be health care. On the other hand, ANCC applicants must hold a current register nurse license accompanied by 2 years of related work experience along with completed continuing education credits and 200-2,000 hours practical training in conjunction with practical experience in nurse informatics. Once an individual submits a certification application, and a certification agency approves it, the applicant will be able to take the competency examination administered by the respective agency. If examination is successfully passed, the applicant is granted a certificate proving professional certification in nurse informatics. Application and examination fees vary depending on ANA, ANI, and non- membership status, and range between $270 and $390.
