How to Become an EKG Tech in Virginia - VA

EKG technicians have an important role to play in the realm of health and patient care. They are extensively trained on how to use and interpret the readings of an electrocardiogram (EKG). These machines detect electrical impulses of the heart and provide a reading to show how the heart is functioning. Knowing exactly where and how to place the leads of the electrocardiographic machine is just one portion of an EKG technician’s training. Because the difference between a correct reading and an incorrect reading can mean life or death, EKG technicians are critically important to understanding how a patient’s heart is functioning.

Virginia EKG Technican Certification

EKG technician certification in Virginia begins with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). This will require you to take and pass an examination so that you can be legally deemed an EKG technician, thus giving you permission to work in the State of Virginia under this title.

EKG technician jobs can be found in hospitals, medical clinics, small practice clinics, and diagnostic laboratories. Because healthcare is such a booming field of employment, it is understandable the EKG technicians will fill their appropriate place in the field. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics predicts a 24% growth for this field from now until 2018, namely because of the aging population and the related need for cardiac investigation.
